The Basic Types of Heat Transfer

There are three primary modes of heat transfer.

1.Conduction, the transfer of heat through matter with no net displacement of the matter.

2.Convection, the circulatory motion of a gas or liquid caused by the variation of its density and the action of gravity.

3.Radiation, the process of transferring heat by emitting electromagnetic energy in the form of waves or particles.

Thermal Conductivity is the amount of heat a particular variable can carry through it in unit time. The First Law of Thermodynamics states, matter and energy can not be created or destroyed. Likewise, heat, or the movement of energy from a hotter object to a cooler object is never destroyed, but only moved elsewhere. This is the role of cooling systems. What does thermal conductivity mean in a liquid cooling system? Thermal conductivity shows why copper and stainless steel are the preferred cold plate material for heat exchange and cooling systems.
